Adulting 101: Sony a6500 Consumer Launch

When Kuya Noel, one of the running buddies of Jem's mom (see post here and here), PMed Jem that he saw a photography workshop offered by Sony, we immediately registered through the link he gave.

We didn't really expect much from this workshop since it was for free but we were nonetheless excited to attend one. Add to the fact that they will be conducting a raffle with a prize of one new Sony Alpha 6000!

The event was scheduled on the 25th of February and will be held at Whitespace Manila. Since we're both really noobs with the areas of Makati, we researched days ahead on how to get there. At first we were planning on commuting by taking the MRT to Magallanes and walking along Chino Roces but on the day itself, we were able to use Jem's family car. Still, we used Waze AND Google (yes, simultaneously) so that we wouldn't get lost :))

Though we arrived quite late, we were there by past 2 PM even though it was schedule at 1 PM hehe, we were lucky enough that they still have a parking space and the event organizers accommodated us.

THE PLACE:

Whitespace Manila is located along Chino Roces Ave. It's an event's place offering spaces for seminars, birthday bash, weddings, and any other type of celebration. Honestly, the place was beautiful inside and out. Though there are limited parking spaces, I read that they can accommodate guests to park cars on nearby lots. If your interested on booking this place, you can check out their page here.

THE EVENT:

Anyway, since the program had already started, we got there when Gabby Cantero was already conducting her Q and A session. Her seminar was about Food Photography since she's a well known and established photographer for lifestyle magazines. She was very kind and answered all technical and out of the box questions from the audience. You can check out her portfolio here

After the Q and A, Sony had this sort of "Touch and Try" demonstration where various Sony Alpha models where displayed for attendees' use. Gabby and her team also set up some sample food to which us, the audience, can test what we learned from her seminar.

Since there were quite a number of enthusiastic and excited people, we failed to test out our food photography skills fully (if we even have any LOL) so we just played with the lenses displayed all around and tried it out for ourselves.

During the free time, we were invited by the organizers to go outside for a photo session. And the unexpected buffet hehe (we were so lucky we attended this seminar!) was also served.

Since the next seminar will be starting at 4PM, we decided to use our food stub for their buffet! They served mini burgers, mini tortillas, some mini pecan pie, and even cupcakes and lemon pie for desserts!

After having seconds, and thirds (#noshame), we settled to our seat and waited for the second talk to begin. The next speaker is a well known street and action photographer JC Gellidon. He is also a videographer and you can check his page here as well as following his awesome IG account here.

JC was a very spontaneous and funny guy all throughout his talk. Still, he was able to showcase his works and explain his style all the while providing tips for those who want to take on action photography.

His talk was pretty funny because he doesn't really take himself seriously and he was very spontaneous. He joked that he was quite hyper himself since he drank a coffee before starting.

After his very informative talk, he made a demo of action photography by inviting dancers and a black belt in karate to perform while he take photos. He also invited the attendees to take pictures along with him. Here are our failed attempts:

After his session, the winner for the raffle of a new Sony Alpha 6000 was announced. A very fortunate guy won and was told to get his prize at one of Sony's offices in Manila.

We also had a chance to take a selfie with this action photographer guru!

Before we head home, Jem and I decided to grab some of their free food once again HAHA. We also had a mini photo op since their arrangement was just oh so gorgeous you can't help but fall in love <3

Of course we didn't go home empty handed! Sony gave away a loot bag with a notebook and a free shirt :)

We'll definitely look forward to more workshops by Sony! They definitely raised the bar for the first seminar we attended. Thank you for the wonderful experience, Sony Philippines!
