Photography and Travel Enthusiasts, UNITE!

Nowadays, lakwatseras (or travelers, for a kinder term HAHA) are more in tuned in producing not just selfies, but what most people call as 'artsy' shots. Of course this is already achievable with whatever camera you got; may it be your smartphone, your trusted sports cam, or what have you. As long as you got the right place, the right angle.

But there's just this something that makes you want to produce an output that is more than just for posting on your IG feed. And this can be achieved if you have more freedom of control on your device. So you can remove or lessen that annoying glare of the sun on your artsy shot, so that the sharpness of the mountains on the distance will be prominent, so that the waves of the ocean will have that realistic texture that you oh-so-crave for... Yeah, yeah post processing is a thing, but what if you can produce that same result with just a raw shot, right?

Yes, SLRs and DSLRs has been on market for the past millennia (exaggeration, I know), but not everyone has the time to learn its technicalities and the money to purchase a good one. Good thing mirror-less cameras had made its niche on the market!

If we define it through its technicalities, it's easy to understand why its called mirror-less. This camera uses an image sensor to provide an image to the electronic viewfinder (EVF). It is called mirror-less since it does not have a movable mirror in the optical path (source). So there, it literally does not have a mirror on the optical path so the image you see on your viewfinder/screen is a digital rendition and not the actual subject. To illustrate, here's its difference with an SLR.

Now that we have covered the basics, I'll now be focusing on reviewing one of the cheapest and best performing (for its price range) mirror-less camera that is currently being sold in our market.

Sony, one of the top brands known for producing not just home entertainment appliances, but also one of the top of the line manufacturer of cameras, had been introducing mirror-less cameras for the past couple of years. And now that we had a sudden boom of interest on such cameras, it was no doubt that they were the ones dominating the market.

Upon browsing, I was introduced to a certain Alpha Series model Sony had released last March 2014; the Sony a5000.

Point-and-shoot, wide range of control (on exposure, aperture, shutter speed, etc), compact, and has a tilting screen, are just few of the features of this camera. The a5000 is considered as one of the most affordable mirror-less cameras currently being sold.

It has 20.0MP APS-C CMOS Sensor, perfect for getting the sharpness of your no-doubt beautiful scenery. A 3" tilting screen for your selfies and/or groufies and you know, any other angle that makes it easier for you if you have a tilting screen (i.e. FOODY!). It also has a 100 - 16000 ISO range so you can take night shots more clearly! Best for when you beach bumming under the stars :>

What's more is that you can connect it easily to your smartphone for transferring of photos so you can upload it immediately to your social media accounts! Who wouldn't want that right? Especially when you're travelling and you want the world to know where you are #ATM or whatever your doing during your long awaited #vacay!

But connecting your camera to your phone doesn't just end with the purpose of transferring images. You can also remotely control your camera so you wouldn't have to guess where you'll be standing if you'll be using your trusted tripods!

Of course the features of Sony's a5000 doesn't end there! We, who loves to travel, prefers to use our smartphones and sport cameras due to its easy-carry size. That's why most are not too keen to use SLRs when travelling (unless you're not just an enthusiast but a pro!). Good thing the Sony a5000 is not just compact but light. You save up space when packing and your neck won't feel too sore or tired when you're up and about touring your chosen destination.

What comes with being a photography enthusiast and a traveler is that we have to have a camera that has the battery life as long as our stamina! The Sony a5000 boasts its battery life which can take you 420 shots per single full charge of its battery! PERFECT! Especially when you're travelling with the IG Boyfie :)) we all know the perfect photo can't be taken by a single shot!

Aside from its 20.0MP sensor, you can achieve more from your photos by interchanging its lenses! Yes, you heard that right (man, I sound like a sales man HAHA)! Like any other SLR or DSLR, Sony a5000 also has lens kits which you can purchase separately. If you purchase one, it will come with a 16–50 mm Power Zoom lens. Its E-mount makes it easier for you to find other lenses since Sony simply manufactures the same mount. You can purchase lenses ranging from macro up to telephoto.

BUT WAIT! There's more HAHA Aside from our picturesque photos captured during our travel, we also want to document it entirely by creating a wonderful video which would depict our journey. Sony a5000 can also do just that! With its 1920 x 1080 video resolution and continuous focus, we can definitely capture one of the clearest documentation we can.

Definitely, Sony a5000 can be your bestest travel buddy on your next adventures. You wouldn't even need to ask a stranger to take your photo next time and be shy about it! So if you're looking for a point-and-shoot digital camera, which gives you further freedom of control, then why not try Sony's Alpha 5000?
