Meet Our New Family Member

I've always wanted to have a living, breathing pet ever since I was small. Too bad my mom doesn't like the idea of taking care of another living, breathing something aside from me. I think it was because I already was too much to handle :)) Whenever I asked for one though, she always compensated by buying me fishes. All throughout my childhood we had a small aquarium inside our house. I guessed we stopped having one when my mom realized that it was still quite high maintenance (my mom is like that).

Luckily though, the place we live in is infested by cute, little cats. We had a number of unofficial pet cats when I was a child. There was Lucas (which I don't remember why I named him that way), then Ming-Ming (which we later placed on a box along with her numerous kittens, she's quite a whore LOL, and placed in an abandoned land... I was crying the whole time), then Mary who all of the sudden stopped dropping by our house, and now we have Garfield, the chillest unofficial house cat we ever had.

We had another development though. My aunt's friend offered her a free puppy last month and we happily agreed to take it home! I was sooo excited to meet it that I kept asking her every Sunday (it was her church-mate) if where the puppy was. Then on one fateful Sunday as I was doing our laundry, my aunt called from somewhere as she was walking home. And on her arms was a tiny, brown, SUPER CUTE puppy!!!

The previous owner apparently called her Kourtney but since it was too girly for us, my aunt changed it to Aina. The name is from a Catalan origin which means joy, and it perfectly describes this little bundle of fur and teeth!

Aina is a cross-breed of a Golden Retriever and a typical Filipino askal. I think it was what gave her that distinct color. She was almost 2 months old when she was given to us (1 year old in dog years) so the typical problems of potty training and biting was what came with being her new family.

She loves being in the company of others and cries whenever she's left alone. On her first day, since we were totally not ready for her arrival, I immediately asked Jem to accompany me on buying some of her stuff. We bought a soft mat that would serve as her bed on Daiso which cost us around 88 pesos. We also bought a twin dog bowl where we can put her water and dog food side by side on Handyman. It cost us around 120 pesos, if I remember correctly. Along with her dog bowl, we also bought her a chew toy which costs around 100 pesos.

We also canvassed some dog food so I could set my aunt's expectation about its costs. We saw a puppy chow (I forgot the brand) which costs around 160 pesos for 2 kilos. Jem and I then quickly traveled back to my house so we could play with Aina.

For the first few days, she seemed a bit aloof, only wanting to play with my aunt. I guess it was because she was most familiar with her scent. After a day or two, Aina quickly got along with every member of the family. She became very, VERY playful and would often attempt on biting every part of your body which she can reach!

When left alone, she would behave herself and lie on the floor until you give her your undivided attention.

Since she's only about 2 months old, biting is our number one enemy out of her habits. She would often chew some shoes and even broke one of my slippers! :(( I ended up giving up some of my toys (my samurai swoorrdd noooo huhu) so she could busy herself with other, safe stuff.

We're planning on taking her to the vet for her first visit this coming Sunday and I hope it turns out well! Since it was our family's first time having a dog, I probably would have to ask the vet numerous questions on how to properly take care of her :>
