Jepenese

When Jem and I started going out, it was immediately agreed that our comfort food would be Japanese food. From there, we decided that we must try all the Japanese restaurant here in Manila that offers our favorite meal, Tonkatsu.

We first heard about Maisen when Jem's mom brought home a tonkatsu burger which was so delicious it tasted like the ones being sold in Japan (I haven't been there, but Jem has been going back and forth and he always made sure that I have a taste of some 'legit' Japanese food).

Since we've already tried Saboten and Yabu (which is still our favorite), we decided that on our next date (which was planned weeks and even months before so that we could save money) we'll be dining here.

On the day of our much awaited date (mainly because we'll get to pig-out at Maisen), we decided to watch a movie first because (1) it's tradition to go to a movie when you're on a date and (2) we wanted to our stomach to starve ourselves so our PHP800++ will not be a waste.

Alright, let's cut to the chase.

When we got to Maisen, you'll get your typical Japanese service where you'll be seated on a table that is exactly the size of your group. You'll be provided with our menus and some hot tea along with some towels soaked on warm water to clean off your obviously dirty hands.

Of course it didn't take long before we called the waiter since we already knew what we wanted even before going here. Typical of us, we both ordered tonkatsu and afterward we chatted and took some photos while we waited.

We were served minutes later with your typical tonkatsu meal. Included on Maisen's katsu meal is of course the katsu (duh), unlimited Japanese rice, unlimited shredded cabbage, some fruits, and a miso soup.

We really did take our time while eating at Maisen it almost took ours more than 2 hours before we decided to leave. Overall it was a great experience and Maisen is definitely one Japanese restaurant that you need to try!

Just wanted to include this side story hehe.

After eating we decided to try Ice Skating for the first time, or you know, for me. When we watched on Megamall's cinema, we decided to purchase their eplus card that has lots of coupons for inclusions. There was one where you can use their skating rink for 1 hour for only PHP99 so since we're already there, we agreed to give it a try.

Both of us are really just noobs on skating. Although I do how to use a roller blades and because of that, I was a bit braver to take on the middle of the rink without the railings for support :)

BTW, here's some of the pictures we took!

One more scratch from my 2016 bucket list!

  • Eat at Maisen!
